When you're picking a quarterback this season there are a lot of variables to consider, especially once you get past the top few. To make the decision a little easier, there's a metric that RotoWorld's Greg Rosenthal projects: pass attempts.

Makes sense, right?

While Tom Brady was on his blistering pace to break the touchdown record last season, fantasy football owners (New England Patriots fans in particular) got excited. Maybe now, most thought, Brady can solely be considered the league's best quarterback. He already had the rings - though, ironically, he failed to win a ring in his best individual season - and now he's proven he can light up the scoreboard as well as anyone else in the league, even that Manning fellow.

Whether or not that is actually the case, there are a few things to remember when looking at Tom Brady this season, from a fantasy football standpoint.

50,000 years ago, humans began to develop at a faster rate making more ingenious tools.  This time in history is known as the "Great Leap Forward." Well I have just seen the next "Great Leap Forward" and it is at www.sportsdatahub.com.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme has been the team's starting quarterback for five seasons (this being his sixth), and in that time he's seen both the highs and lows. In 2003, his first season with the team, he found himself in the Super Bowl, where the Patriots beat the Panthers by this much. And last season an injury sidelined him in week three (requiring major surgery) before the season had a chance to get going.

But that's not why some Carolina fans are calling for a replacement. No, the real reason fans are looking for someone new is because his production has steadily declined since 2004, and his franchise has had just one season above .500 since winning the NFC Championship.

And that's exactly why he can be drafted at a premium this season. If you're not too concerned with the injury - and you have faith he'll be 100% when the season kicks off like he and the team hope - then read some more and find out just how sleepy this one-time Pro Bowl quarterback is.

AD or LT?

In fantasy football, it's always good to have an edge. And if you're the proud owner of your draft's first overall pick, you're probably wondering who to take. Conventional wisdom might favor LaDainian Tomlinson, but Adrian Peterson's 2007 season was impressive enough that you might need to reconsider.

Below are the pros and cons of drafting LT and AD. Ultimately the decision will come down to what your gut instinct tells you, but if you're still split, why not do a little statistical investigation?

The Minnesota Vikings are going to be playing in a stadium packed with fans this season and beyond, thanks to the emergence of running back phenom Adrian "All Day" Peterson. AD has revived a franchise that hasn't had a bona fide star in years, and in doing so has excited fans and fantasy owners alike.

My thoughts on the state of the franchise, Minnesota's potential in the NFC North this season and beyond, and All Day's projections are below.

Last season the Kansas City Chiefs put together an interesting season, opening the year with a 4-3 record and closing it with nine consecutive losses. Larry Johnson had an (expected) breakdown midway through the season after a slow start, and the Chiefs went 0-8 while he was out of the lineup. The Chiefs running game, which is usually stellar, didn't produce a running back with a yard per carry average better than 3.6 and the offense as a whole had 6 rushing touchdowns. In fact, the Chiefs had arguably the worst running game in the NFL.

Fans expect this team to do better this season. After all, last year it was a young team with little experience and missing pieces. But in the AFC West it's difficult to predict what will happen, and the Chiefs could finish 4-12 just as easily as they could 10-6. My thoughts on what will happen this season are below.

Here's something you may not know: Clinton Portis ranked 7th and 9th in fantasy points among all positions in 2005 and 2007. That's right: Portis was a top ten player those years (and a top 6 running back, if you're interested). In fact, the same can be said of his 2002-2003 seasons. And in 2004 - the year running back production was down across the board, just like last season - he was the 11th best back in the league.

That means Clinton Portis has finished 11th or (usually) better every season of his career, save one: 2006, when he played just 8 games because he was sidelined with an injury.

And he's not a first round draft pick.

Though most fantasy footballers will tell you that running back is the most important position in fantasy football, I would like to point out that finding a good quarterback is very important. And for those players who refuse to pick a quarterback in the first four rounds of their fantasy drafts, it's important to have a list of players poised to have a breakout season.

Here's a (rough draft) list of my top three quarterbacks with that kind of potential.

In fantasy football we love to talk about the numbers. We study player statistics from the past three seasons, averaging and projecting. We pay close attention to the number of touchdowns scored and marvel at the records players set.

But are we looking at the right numbers? For that matter, are there numbers for which we should be paying particularly close attention? The answers to those two questions is often, no and yes.
